Progress Update
I’d like to provide an update on the current progress of my work.
Currently, I am continuing to work on the damage variations for the enemy characters. This time, I completed the enemy characters E16 and E17. With the previously completed E15, this means that three high school student characters in uniforms are now finished. The production is progressing smoothly, though perhaps not as quickly as initially expected.
For some of the characters, I also made slight adjustments to their faces while creating the damage variations. The original versions were not bad, but I believe the changes have resulted in an even better finish.
While drawing lacerations and internal organs is understandably challenging, there are some unexpectedly time-consuming tasks. For example, I changed the skin tone for certain face variations.
If it were just a single image, this might not be too demanding, but applying it to nearly ten different damage variations makes it a very intricate task. Characters in uniforms are particularly prone to layer display errors when exporting images, which requires extra attention.
On top of that, I sometimes even change the shape of the nails, which makes me smile wryly at my own thoroughness. On the other hand, I make sure to simplify things where I can, such as using the same design for all the underwear.
Looking at the finished product, I feel that the different skin tones for each character add a lot of depth. After all, in reality, people have various skin tones.
When it comes to cutting corners, I’ve also found ways to be efficient with the grotesque depictions. For each enemy character, there are three face variations and three death images. In other words, I need to create three intense, grotesque images that clearly show fatal injuries.
Drawing internal organs is especially labor-intensive because I have to add something that wasn’t there originally. However, there are death patterns that can be achieved by removing existing parts. One example is decapitation.
Both E15 and E16 include this decapitation death pattern. For these, I painstakingly drew internal organs for two of the images, but for the third, I took the easier route with decapitation.
However, I didn’t use this method for E17 because using the same approach too often can become monotonous. Instead, I introduced head destruction, which is likely one of the most intense forms of grotesque expression. It’s not something I can include frequently, but it’s necessary every once in a while.
The internal structure of the head is complex, and I always question if I’m doing it right while drawing. There hasn’t been a single time during this process that I haven’t second-guessed myself.
