Progress Report
Following the last update, I’ve continued working on event scene images.
Just preparing the mass-slaughtered corpse visuals is a considerable task on its own, but the scene I’m currently working on includes an even more challenging element: clothing depiction.
In QUEEN of MASSACRE, many characters appear completely nude, but ordinary people—who are the main victims in these scenes—are usually clothed. As a result, creating slaughter scenes for these characters is far more labor-intensive than for naked ones.
The base character images have already been completed, and their basic clothing is also drawn. However, since being slaughtered implies bodily injuries, the clothing needs to be torn accordingly. This isn’t just a matter of erasing certain parts; the shapes must be altered to match the situation.
To make matters worse, when the character’s posture changes significantly, large-scale revisions or even redrawing may be required.
In this scene, a girl falls on her backside, causing her skirt to flip up and reveal its underside. Minor shape adjustments can be handled using the transform tools in drawing software, but for situations like this, it must be redrawn manually. The hands supporting her from behind were also drawn from scratch.
This kind of work takes significant time and effort. Ideally, I would like to avoid scenes that require such time-consuming editing, but doing so would risk making the visuals too repetitive. Therefore, including scenes like this becomes inevitable.
In this image, the clothing around the abdomen and back is significantly torn. This level of editing isn’t particularly difficult. The skirt, which should normally hang downward due to gravity, hasn’t been depicted that precisely. Overall, this image was made with some shortcuts. Ideally, I’d like to maintain a ratio of 80% of such simplified images to 20% of meticulously detailed ones.
Though these remarks concern still images, the same principle applies to animations as well. I try to minimize labor wherever possible and focus my energy on polishing the most important scenes.
This scene, where a harpy impales a girl through the abdomen, consists of only two images. To be honest, it can hardly be called an animation. That said, since this scene is part of a longer sequence involving standard character sprites, it should appear more dynamic in context.
The scene where a character’s head is crushed underfoot. While there’s little actual motion, I’ve spared no effort in the brutal, grotesque expression.
